Nectere - The Eclipse Release: Absolute Class

This is a watch I have been waiting to share for literal months, and thankfully, it is well worth the wait. Nectere (meaning Binding or Connecting in Latin) was founded in 2024 by James and Tony, and their first collection introduced a uniquely shaped case design to the world for an affordable price with an ultra-thin mechanical movement. The only catch was that each design was limited, and it soldout almost instantly. After raucous demands for more, Nectere has unveiled a brand new watch with the same iconic, soft triangular case, except this one features a PVD gold finish with a matching mesh bracelet, and an obsidian black dial that has more depth than you may assume.

Nectere - The Eclipse: The Dial is Everything

The center of the dial features a liquid, light absorbing shade of black that stands out even when looking at the watch from afar. At the 6 o'clock, there is an asymmetrical sub-dial with gold stick indices, and a cross pattern bisecting it to make it even easier to follow the smooth gold seconds-hand. If the entire dial was made in this fashion, I'd say it's already a smashing success, but of course, Nectere doesn't stop there.

Surrounding this obsidian island (the center dial) are complex lines carved into the third tier of this three-tiered dial with each line acting as grooves that add depth and texture in contrast to the gold hour markers.

To complete this visual mastery, Nectere uses a domed sapphire crystal, which adds the perfect amount of distortion to the dial when viewing it at strange angles. For me, this really fulfills its namesake - the Eclipse - and makes me think of how gold peeks out over the darkness of a solar eclipse. Speaking of...

The Gold Works Wonders

I thought that simply changing from a stainless steel silver case to a gold PVD case wouldn't make much of a difference, but in my opinion, it adds such a luxurious effect to the watch that I'm utterly captivated by it every time I wear the watch.

The bracelet is also not only a perfect fit with the watch itself, but it is extremely comfortable. When I spoke with James about the bracelet, he told me it was really important for them to make the bracelet as comfortable as possible. I was quite happy to tell him they definitely succeeded.

The caseback features a semi-exhibition caseback that shows a peek at the thin Seagull movement powering this mechanical watch. You might notice that the cutout is in the exact same shape as the case itself, which I thought was a super nice touch.

No watch is perfect, but I genuinely think that Nectere have succeeded in creating a watch that functions as both a conversation starter, and a damn good timepiece, too. I will be writing a full review about this later on, but I felt compelled to write this release article simply from how much I loved wearing this watch.
